Generation Tech

“Generation Tech” by Virginia R. Coleman

I submitted the sketch to the Liberated Arts Foundation for their upcoming exhibit titled “Table of Resilience: Black Culture, Struggle, and the Shared Experience”. The opening exhibit will be in the Main Street Center Art Gallery of the Main Street Station, Richmond, VA, on July 2, 2024. There will be amazing works by a curated group of visual artists in this exhibit. My piece depicts Grandparents/Parents with a child sitting at their kitchen table, all gazing down at an electronic tablet. I aimed for viewers to ponder over the dynamics of teaching and learning among the trio, and at the eleventh hour, I decided to incorporate in cursive an inspiring quote from Maya Angelou, my favorite poet. It reads,

“We need Joy as we need air.

We need Love as we need water.
We need each other as we need the earth we share.”

It's a reminder that we rely on each other daily, emphasizing the importance of aiding one another without expecting immediate reciprocation for every act of kindness. This painting sold before the end of the exhibit.
